Apolyton's Age of Nations - Eps 11

The eleventh episode of "Age of Nations" (AoN), 'Distant Shores', has been released. Available in both DivX and Windows Media formats, it can be accessed from Apolyton Civ Site. AoN is the first Real-Time Strategy (RTS) machinima series, and the first "Rise of Nations" machinima endeavour that also blends some `live-action` footage for good measure.

ApolyCon `06 - Part 4

Last night Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS) published the fourth in a five part serial with Big Huge Games Chief Executive Officer & Creative Director Brian Reynolds from ApolyCon `06 held in Timonium, Maryland this past July. In this latest edition, Reynolds` next order of business is on making a challenging Artificial Intelligence (AI) comparable to human players. Bypassing traditional tutorials in favour of "learn as you go" and the approach to, evolution of and influences for designing game interfaces from his perspective round out this installment. ApolyCon `06 - Part 3

Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS) has published the 3rd in a five-part serial with Big Huge Games Chief Executive Officer & Creative Director Brian Reynolds from ApolyCon `06 held in Timonium, Maryland this past July. In this edition of "The Brian Reynolds Session", Reynolds converses about strategy games on handheld systems and telephones and the first game he developed and sold for money. He raises pros and cons of using emulators to (re-)play older games, and contemplates increasing complexity of interfaces in strategy games using Rise of Nations as one example. New Scenarios at RoNH

This week Chaz456 continues his design spree first with "Pirates Cove Spainish Invasion". On this map You Are the british and you need to take over the spainish island and the french island. Secondly, he had "Battle Of Madrid". On This map you need liberate Madrid and destroy the army occupying. Thirdly, he has "Battle Of Boadicea". On this map you need to defeat Boadicea and her forces. Finally he has "Pearl Harbour". On this map you must use your Japanese fleet to destroy the harbour but be careful of the anti-aircraft guns.

ApolyCon `06 - Part 2

Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS) has published the second in a five-part serial with Big Huge Games Chief Executive Officer & Creative Director Brian Reynolds from ApolyCon `06 held in Timonium, Maryland this past July. In this latest edition of "The Brian Reynolds Session", Reynolds looks at the introduction of Windows95 and playing Civilization II in this environment. He recalls the timeline crunch for adding scenarios to CivII, and improving the game's Map Editor along the way. Reynolds remembers using dial-up Internet access while in England to communicate back to MicroPROSE offices in the United States. Today and in the recenet past, he discusses outsourcing some artwork, the good and bad of finding good artists and incorporating good game graphics on the PC. Multiplayer Scenarios at RoNH

This week we have Garant with two multiplayer scenario creations. First he has "Europe 1914- A War to End all Wars". Its Europe 1914: take command of one of the 7 greatest nations of this time. Next we have "1701- Enlightment in Europe". Its The begining of the 18'th Century, and the Europeans are colonizing the world. Rivalities in Europe may turn into wars, and you must lead your nation to domination. Both are for the Thrones & Patriots expansion.

New Mods at RoNH

We have some new Mods at Rise of Nations Heaven to report on. Chazgeary03 continues to improve on his "Rise of Chazbot: Thrones and Patriots". Now into Remix 1.31, this version, which fixes a bug that was causing the Alexander campaign to crash, adds sounds (which I had overlooked) to Catapult Ships and Siegeships, and fixes several typos in the help file. Xenotron returns with a "Supermarine Seafire" Mod. This mod gives the British a Supermarine Seafire, for modern age navy, without playercolors. Up next is pvt jenkins117 with a USA skinpack. This skinpack is kind of an extension of his original usmc skinpack, replacing the textures of the Abrams, Assault marine, Avenger, Humvee,and MLRS. Finally we have ElectroSwift with what he calls "General mod". This mod changes a number of parameters in unitrules to make for more epic battles, like more troops per group and more damaging attacks.

Bonfire Night

Over here in the UK it's the time to celebrate the only man who went into government with honest intentions. If you are using fireworks tonight, please be careful to keep yourselves safe and if you're off to a display somewhere, have a good time.

RoNH Scenarios Update

On the scenario design front. chaz456 comes back with an improved version of his "World War 3 Turkish Defence". This scenario is about a defended base in the desert and your the turkish and you have to build and create things to destroy the enemy base on the other side of the desert. He continues into the future theme with "World War 4 Inca Ambush". This map you need to search and destroy the snowy forest and kill all there gaurds and destroy the barracks. Finally, he updates his "Pirates Cove" to version 2. On pirates cove 1 the French took over a British island. On this map you are the British re-taking that island that the french captured in pirates cove 1.

New RoNH mods

chazgeary03 keeps revising his creation to perfection. His "Rise of Chazbot: Thrones and Patriots" now in Remix 1.26d fixes a couple bugs, and improves anti-air capabilities, among other improvements. Next we have pghassassin with a "Native Names Mod". This is the fixed Version of Alexandre Jerome's Native Names Mod.

New RoNH Scenarios

We also have some new scenarios to report on at Rise of Nations Heaven. First up is Chaz456 with "Omaha Beach". He takes on the popular WW2 scenario topic. He continues with WW2 with "World War 2 Berlin". On this map you are the Americans and your objective is to take out all the Germans and liberate Berlin. He also contributes "World War 3 Turkish Defence". This scenario is about a defended base in the desert and your the turkish and you have to build and create things to destroy the enemy base on the other side of the desert. He also has another called "Pirates Cove". On this map you are French invaders in the Enlightenment age. Next we have squashy86 taking on WW2 with "Normandy". Get through the dangerous sea force to get to the beach were a huge force awaits! He jumps ahead into the future with another scenario called "World war 4". A huge army is protecting the antarctican capital the british has volenteered to destroy the capital.

We got more mods to to report on at Rise of Nations' Heaven. Hot on the heals of version 1, chazgeary03 gives us version 1.1 of his "Rise of Chazbot: Thrones and Patriots Remix 1.1". This version of this mod fixes a bug that made Howitzers unavailable sometimes. Next we have baj0429 with "American Revolution Mod ". This mod uses "Mrclean’s American Revolution Mod for RON" converted for use with Thrones & Patriots as a true stand-alone mod.

ApolyCon `06 Interviews

Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS) published the first in a five-part serial with Big Huge Games Chief Executive Officer & Creative Director Brian Reynolds from ApolyCon `06 held in Timonium, Maryland this past July.

In this premiere edition of "The Brian Reynolds Session", Reynolds notes that while his wife was working on a teaching fellowship for a year in England, he worked extensively on Civilization II`s development. He reflects on his computer work prior to joining MicroPROSE as well as what genre of games he orignally worked on at the company. He observes a trend towards console over PC gaming, and comments on which genre he believes will keep the PC industry competitive. Further, he confirms working on a console project but cannot publicly discuss it at present.

RoNH Mods Downloads

First we have baj0429 with a CTW Map mod. This one is called "Modern Europe CTW Map" and tries to make the map more reflective of modern Europe. He also contributes another based on Axis & Allies game, you can download that CTW Map from here. Next we have LightInfa with a new tank mod for the "Challenger 2". This mod gives the British the Challenger 2 as their unique tank in the Information Age. Finally, we have chazgeary03 with a mod call "Rise of Chazbot: Thrones and Patriots Remix 1.0". This mod's idea was to improve units and buildings as necessary, mainly in the later Ages. This remix also includes Battleman's Improved Naval Warfare 2.0 patch, XenonDDR's flak ammo mod, and several improved unit skins from various authors

RoNH MP Scenario Downloads

We also have a bunch of multiplayer scenarios to report on! First is Albino_75 with "Diplomacy Europe 1700s Ver 3". This is an update of his previous version of the scenario of the same name. Veteran scenario designer Berlin9487 returns with "World War II Autumn Wind". In this scenario you battle through World War 2, as either the Axis or Allies, all nations have at least three unique units and all nations can upgrade their infantry by moving a scholar to the appropriate building (Infantry upgrade building). Finally we have LordDarrigan with "Diplo Gallia 52 BC". In this you can play as the Romans, Brittons, Belgians, North Celts, South Celts or East Celts. Conquer Gaul by Diplomacy and War and rule over Gaul!

Ok we have a lot of new scenarios to report on at Rise of Nations Heaven. First we have "La Bataille de Moscou/ The Battle Of Moscow (WWII)" by Hakannakah. This scenario is for RoNTP and takes on the Germans vs Russian during WW2. Next we have Fox134 with "Rise of the Ottoman Empire". This is a set of 3 scenarios that relive the rise of the Ottoman empire from it's fouding in 1299 to the daeth of Mehmed II in 1480. Next we have dpn1974 with "Operation Retake Jaffna - Srilankan army vs LTTE". This scenario plays out the strife in Sri Lanka during the 1980's. Next we have Lana with "WW2 version 0.85". This scenario is more like a preview of his final work which for the second time in 25 years Europe will be engulfed in war. Will you Command The Allies to victory or will you Command the Nazis with their mechanized blitzkrieg to conquer all. This scenario incorporates my Rise of Panzers Mod. Next we have carch2002 with "Fire from the Sky: The North Korean Threat". This scenario is part 1 of a coming series which deal with the current North Korean nuclear crisis on the news of late.
