RoN/RoNT&P Musician Feature

Does BHG listen?

Community Relationships Manager Graham "Thunder" Somers has stopped by the forums to shed a little light on the Maya situation and to reassure us that yes, BHG most certianly does listen.
Yes, the Mayans are too strong and need a nerf, and given that Spain is owning the early ages, they will also have an adjustment or two made. We've been discussing when and how to implement these adjustments. Thank you all for your feedback!

If anyone is concerned that we are unaware of a balance problem, or cheat, or anything else, feel free to drop me an e-mail at I do visit every fan site forum (MFO, RONH, O4B's Blog, Rise of Nations Rev, RoNO, Apolyton, RoNU, etc etc) and try to get online to play to keep in the loop, but there's lots to keep track of.

On a side note, we're also going to be making some changes to our ratings system. Thanks to O4B and many others for their input.

Have you got some thoughts on balance problems in the game that you'd like to share? Head on over to this thread and let everyone know.

Modeling & Texturing for Rise of Nations - Part 3

In our series on Modeling & Texturing for Rise of Nations, we continue with Part 3 "Texturing". This article takes your Texture template that you've created in the Unwrapping process and through a good deal of artistry, transform it into a Texture Skin for your Model. Hopefully it will look as good as any other playable unit within the game.

Rise of Nations Wins X-Play's Best Strategy Game 2003

TechTV's X-Play has voted Rise of Nations the Best Strategy game of 2003.
The fast pacing makes building and protecting your empire a breathless experience as the military, economy, and culture all drive your manifest destiny. Rarely is there a real-time strategy game where the single and multiplayer experiences are equally incomparable. "Rise of Nations" excels at both. This is one revolution in gaming we hope conquers all.
Rise of Nations was also a nominee for Best Game of 2003 but lost out to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Congratulations to Big Huge Games on the Strategy Game Category though.

Rise of Nations Top 10 game of 2003

Rise of Nations has been named the #7 PC Game of 2003 by Gamespy.

No one is ever going to claim that Big Huge Games' Rise of Nations is a revolution in real-time strategy gaming. Instead, it falls squarely in line with Age of Empires, an historical-style game in which players take one of 18 civilizations from crossbows to guided missiles as they attempt to take over the world. That having been said, Rise of Nations is a brilliant evolution for the genre. It takes everything that's fun about the genre and gives players a ton of it; it also figures out what RTS gamers hate and minimizes it.

Check out the rest of the article here and be sure to congratulate the team from Big Huge Games for such a great game.

Reviving the Skin Mod Contest

Better late then never. The mod contest got kinda left by the wayside, but since I am running the show at RON Heaven now, I like to get this resolved. So what I'd like is if people can email me, and give me their contact info (name, address etc) and the skin mod that they originally sent in for the contest. Thanks and sorry for the delay.

BHG Looking for 3D Game Programmer

Big Huge Games is looking for someone who can help develop a 3D game engine for them. This will involve extending the current engine in mind-blowing and scalable ways. In particular, multi-resolution terrain rendering and unit animation are hot topics. Various combinations of skills may be acceptable, but you must positively prove that you can do the job and work well with the Big Huge team. Shipped projects, demos, and/or code samples are huge plusses. You can go to their jobs posting section for more details.

Improve Framerate with Force AGP Option

Graham "Thunder" Somers offers a tip on improving framerates for Rise of Nations. This is an un-supported optimization, so use it at your own risk. But here are the details.
