New RoN Scenarios and Mods

This week we have our usual round of mods and scenarios from the Rise of Nations community. First is StealtArcher with a nation mod called "Canada 1.0". Not the first Canada we've seen but we seems to get a few of them. Let's see what's new with this one. He also follows up with another mod that is strictly for humor. It's call "JASDF F-2A". This is mod gives the JASDF F-2A to the Japanese. On the scenario design front probed1969 continues his concentration on the Vietnam era with "The Capture of Lang Vei Special Forces Camp". In this scenario you take the role of the North Vietnamese and attempt to overrun the Special Forces camp. There is even new skin mods that goes with this scenario. You can check out pictures of this scenario and its new skins in our game mod gallery.

So how do you like your games served?

The 13th may be unlucky for some but for us gamers it's anything but. New York University is having a lecture on, of all things, "Dialogue and Narrative Creation for Electronic Games".

So what, you may ask? Well, a good story can always carry the otherwise progressional, pedantic campaigns or scenarios. If you care about why you're doing it that always makes it not just a game but an experience.

So, who better to tell the big boys this than our very own Gordon Farrell, who heads up the team? Always an ambassador for great gameplay, he focuses on the creation of RTS games! Looks like a great way to refresh the game companies on a few things they have forgotten along the way. Throwing features at a game doesn't always make it better.

For those lucky enough to be in the NY area this is a great opportunity to learn more about game design. The class runs from May 15th to June 23 and meets Monday and Wed from 5:30 to 8:30. This is an actual college class you can take for college credits. A pity it cannot be more widespread but the fact that any country or just a part of one is even doing this is a fantastic moment of recognition for all of us.

If you're in the area and can take advantage of this wonderful opportunity, don't delay - apply today! It's a little pricey but if you have the chance to go for it don't pass it up. If you can't, maybe we'll get something back into the games they've been lacking anyway, so it's all good.

Good luck with it Gordon, and don't forget to let us know how you got on. The link for the project itself is here.

New RoNTP Scenarios for the Weekend

The weekend isn't over yet, so that means you can keep on gaming! So with that in mind, we have 3 new scenarios for Rise of Nations: Thrones & Patriots. First, we have Tom_capper with "Island", where you play against a equal sized enemy but you must overcome your disadvantage in map position. Next, we have Thecrayfish with "Battle of Verdun". The area of Verdun has always been important to France, ever since Roman times there have been forts there, and the people of France would rather fight to the death than lose it. You play as the French in this battle of attrition against the Germans. Hang on for long enough and the Germans might realise their folly. Lastly, probed1969 looks back on the Vietnam War with a cleverly named "Apocolypse Then. It's an attempt to portray what the conflict was like in the jungle and along the waterways of the Mekong Delta.

The scenario is situated in Western Front, this is an re-enactment of the Canadian assault on Arras Vimy Ridge, Belgium, April 9th-12th 1917.
