  • In GameSpy, You can now tab between the lobby and the staging room without leaving the staging room.

  • In GameSpy lobbies, additional player info is displayed, including total rated games played.

  • In GameSpy lobby, games being played should be displayed correctly but should be greyed out and sorted to the bottom of the list.

    RoN Ratings System Revealed!

Graham "Thunder" Somers has popped into our very own Rise of Nations Heaven forums to explain some of the weird ratings system changes that people have noticed recently. Here's a snipit:
"Regarding the ratings result that YaleHadderity (1400) experienced when he played ReadyMan (2000+), the outcome was actually correct. Essentially what happened was that YaleHadderity gained points for even attempting to play such a significantly higher rated player, and ReadyMan was penalized for beating up on such low ranked player. This part of the ratings formula is obviously there to discourage abusing low rated players for points."

There's much more to it, so check out the thread right here.

    BHG Update on Patch 3

    Check it out:
"Many thanks to all of you who have taken the time to test the beta version of Patch 3. Thanks to your feedback, we have been working on changes and fixes for an updated version of the beta patch that we hope to make available for public testing this week. As a quick reminder, please use the feedback form at the bottom of our known issues page to submit any bugs or issues you are having with the Patch 3 beta.

After the release of the updated beta version of the patch, we will be organizing a day and time for testers to log on to our in-game matchmaking service, in order to get a large number of games going at the same time. Details on this will follow later in the week."

    TWL Updates

This is a new segment of the news we'll be starting up. Every few days we'll post the status of TWL (Team Warfare Ladder) and the matches that have taken place. I've only got time for the top 10 ranks to keep track of, so if you want your name in the news, sign up and climb the ladder!

I'll be posting the rank which was being fought over (for instance, if #7 challenges #3, Iíll report it as a battle for rank #3), the winner and looser, and any other interesting factors. Here we go:

    1v1 Ladder
#1 - Sarmis_leander defends his title against SHS-Vandal, and now has a 5/0 record. He is now being challenged by Bridger.
#2 - HumanSlayer has been bumped down to #3 after being defeated by Bridger.
    #3- SMAK_Gonz0 defeats SMAK_eXcite* to claim the #3 spot.

All other ranks on the 1v1 ladder are now in challenge mode, results will be posted when they come in.

    2v2 Ladder
Currently awaiting one more clan to join before it is opened.

So come on all you "experts"! Get out there and show your stuff!

    Fanta Shokata?

Bridger has created some hilarious Fanta Shokata videos in this thread. Get on over there and add your own!

    RoN Hits the Books! Er...Comics...

    Of worms, MSBlaster, and DirectX

If your computer is affected by the MSBlaster worm or its variants; or your computer hasn't been patched against the worm, we urge you to patch your computer as soon as possible. You can find out how on this page at Microsoft.

Also, it's highly advised you patch against another security hole that's asking for trouble: There's a problem with DirectX that allows a virus, trojan, or any malicious programs to infect your computer by simply playing an infected MIDI file. This affects all DirectX versions from 5.2 all the way up to 9.0. Thus, you can be infected by simply viewing an email or webpage that has an auto-playing MIDI file. You can find out more and how to patch this on this page at Microsoft. At least one other major media outlet has reported this.

If you haven't installed all the critical updates in Windows Update, it's probably a good idea to do so now.

Carch Reports Beta Patch 3 Stable and Worth the Download!

Carch has noticed that people seem to be reluctent to try the new beta patch for fears of it being unstable (crashing) and unbalanced. He posts to try to clear things up:
"I've seen a lot of reluctance to try out the Beta patch 3 because of fears that it will crash or something -- but let me tell you, it is a LOT more solid than patch 2. Imagine hosting team games that work the first time! Yes! There's no more intermediate staging area so everyone makes it into the game first time, every time.
Yes, there are balance changes and tweaks to units, but this is where the game is going, so if you want to have your say, there's only one way to do it!

At least give the beta patch a try ... it works great, and in the unlikely event you have problems, it only takes a few minutes to restore your old install."

As a testament, Iíve also been playing patch 3 and find it much more stable than patch 2, and much smoother, along with some very useful hotkeys that are not mentioned in the changelist! Check out the full thread here.

Gamegeek Drops by to give us some Patch 3 Info

In the new Patch 3 Beta forums here at Rise of Nations Heaven, there have been a few misconceptions. Paul Stephanouk (aka Gamegeek), the lead producer at BHG, has come forward to clear up a few things:
"1. This is the first BETA release of the patch, not the patch itself. Some adjustments/fixes will be made during the course of the BETA. That's the entire point of having a beta.

    2. There are fixes to other issues for Patch 3 that have already been made and are simply not in this BETA RELEASE because we are still working on the patch. In other words, the changelist is NOT an complete list of every single fix that will be made in the final Patch 3. Updates to the Beta will contain further fixes.

So to restate - the changelist is just for this BUILD of the patch, not the final patch itself. The entire point of the beta is to iterate the patch to include all the major issues at hand."

Check out the full thread here.

    Another RoN Crash Fix

Skanky Burns has posted a posible fix for people who crash as the game is loading. He posted it as a Win98 fix but cobalt98 said he's tried it and it allowed him to play on his WinXP machine. Go ahead and check it out if your having crash problems.

    Patch 3 news

People have been eagerly awaiting news on the latest patch to come out for Rise of Nations and looks like we've finally got an update/
The new patch introduces some major features to the game, such as quickmatch for multiplayer games, multiplayer scenarios, and balance changes, all of which we are looking forward to receiving feedback on from players during a public beta testing process. Currently, we are performing internal testing on a Patch 3 candidate to ensure that it is making all of the necessary updates and doesn't break anything. The public beta for Patch 3 will begin when the patch candidate passes our testing and that of Microsoft. The time that the patch will spend in internal testing is difficult to estimate, days or weeks, but we will do our best to keep you updated.
