Tivo'd this pair of shows on Sunday, and they're quite interesting. May be of general interest to RoN players:
Fire Ships Sailing the Mediterranean was once a dangerous endeavor. Roaming the seas for 500 years was a vessel that inspired dread—the fireship. Invented by the Byzantines, this battleship was stocked with incendiary firing catapults and a monster flame thrower.
Chariots of War The city state of Assyria regained its lost empire. With a formidable army of chariots they rapidly dominated the Near East. Experts attempt to recreate the chariots of the Assyrian military machine, following the changes in design over 300 years.

I watched the Fire Boat one. I found it quite interesting. One thing I noticed was its Roman in design, but in RoN its for every nation... Shouldn't the Fire ship there for be a Roman unique unit. Also, in RoN the Fireship "Explodes" and is basicly a Kamikazi ship, where as its Real life counter part didn't do this at all... I'm fine with RoN how it is, just thought I would point out some differences, the game is great as it is
BTW, If I was alive back than, I would of probobly crapped my self if I saw that thing comming at me.

I haven't seen any of them, and probably won't (time and geographical differences). Anyhow I think there are two types of fire boats: The normal fireboat that used the all-spectacular greek fire and the kamikaze one that was used during and after the dark ages (those were the ones used by Sir Francis Drake in order to break the spanish "Invinsible Armada"'s formation). I'm not sure about this, but I think that was the way the story went.

cool...
ya the fireships in RoN is using the later age terminology of fireships (which indeed was just a suicide boat). Oh and Sir Francis drake's time was past the dark ages, it was past just after the Renaissance period (which would be the gunpowder age in RoN).
But I agree that a Byzantine fireship could be a great UU for either Roman, or Greeks in RoN (since greek is representing the Byzantines it seems in RON with the Stratiotai etc).

I know this has been said before, but why don't we give some UU boats to some nations. I know that it's because in a water map everybody would chose them, but we could give them to nations that do not have any water bonuses (we wouldn't give any to the japs or spaniards). The greek can have the old fireship, the vikings (if included) could have the dragon ship, we could give the egyptians aship with a big catapult....
