i was wondering if people use these much, and for what purpose. it seems they are designed to be archer killers, so a flanking role would suit them, but being foot soldiers they are much slower than light cavalry (and cost the same resources), so just use the cavalry.
maybe you could throw some in with an army to help add some teeth against archers..... but if your main army is down to fighting archers it seems you have probably won the battle already
any thoughts?

their main roles are in the ancient age for archer defense and later as gunpowder units. though they may be slow they are faster than other infantry. i try to keep large ranks of light inf. because they are a great all around unit, i make more light inf. than the other two put together.

I agree. Light Infantry are great. They are a great all around unit. They cost food and wood, which is neccesary for early age reasearch and advancement. More importantly, if im correct, they are one of the first units to start using firearms. So if you have alot of them when you hit gunpowder...

yes, I also use em for early rushes because many tend to go archers earlier, so i just make my light inf, and rush.

Light Infantry like Aquebusiers are great for horde tactics, especially if coupled with the Terra Cotta Army Wonder, which produces free Light infantry every 30 seconds or so. This wonder is also useful for base defense since it keeps pumping out light infantry and you can create a rally point for them to move to. Try coupling this with China's instant peasants(Intant militia) and you've got a lot of cheap horde tactic units to overrun the enemy with. Perfect combo! Although you can't expect them to perform too well against a heavily defended enemy there's plenty of them to keep a foe busy and you never run out, often times keeping your pop cap even in heated combat. As such I always have some knights and heavy inf to deal with major threats, but I've brought down some powerful enemies using horde tactics like this. Besides, in the modern age, they start to really shine and having 150 pop worth of these puppies running around tends to wipe the floor with the enemy! I won an Industrial - Modern game in 20 minutes using the Terra Cotta Wonder and Light Infantry waves.

using TCA while pumping alot of infantry is really the worst way to use the TCA, because of the added time it takes to make LI the more infantry you have. TCA is much better used with a cav civ.
