How do you play against 7 AI nations on a 7-8 people map at tougher settings? How do you setup alliances and how do you make people agree to ally with you? Also to what cost do you ally if you do?
Is raiding good or does that only draw to much attention to you?

Just rush them all and take their capitals. You'll be swimming in resources. You can even win this when they are all teamed against you. On toughest.
It might be hard on the 7-8 players map, even when the map is made vissible.

This is the type of thread that makes me laugh. I mean, laugh at my own level - I was able to defeat 2 toughest AI using the Ancient Rush with Japs and never was able to extend it to 3 (except once, but that was with sudden death settings).
Anyway, to beat 7 AI it HAS to be using a scripted way, which will no doubt involve serious Ancient rushes - no way you can win to any 2 AI in toughest that had 5 minutes left to prosper. I once tried to play the AI on toughest, did a cheat that gave me with what to defend and I never attacked.
After 15 mins of game I stopped and then playing the recorded game from the side of the AI I found how HUGE their resource bonuses amounted to.
There's no way you'll win vs. 2 AI in a small random map if you let them boom a little - the amout of resources that they dispose of after that is simply too big.
But, as far as Ancient Rush goes, it would also be boring to win using always the same old way...

Damn and I who am such a crappy rusher. I played a game on tougher difficulty and was booming as always with some border push probably. Went fine and I was the most valuable player and thought I was winning but then suddenly I get attacked from two sides at once. Was able to almost defeat one opponent when another rushed in and took the city I captured while I was busy defending against the second attacker... Hold of that one and goes on the offensive but then a third opponent who was initially weaker managed to pull a lot of wonders and won a wonder victory if it wasnīt for me succeeding with an Armageddon with 10 seconds left :P
I was the first to develop nuclear weapons and destroyed quite a lot of wonders and buildings for my enemies but somehow they didnīt seem to suffer from it.
At that point there was a total stand still. Was constantly attacked from the south and couldnīt do anything but defend while he really couldnīt attack.
So I guess the only safe thing is to rush constantly...
