Hi,
I wanted to see just how much attacking from the sides or rear mattered, so I made a scenario with units set up to attack from the sides and rear. It can be found on RoNUniverse as Flanking Tests Version 1.

According to the outcome of the scenario, attacking from the sides or rear doesn't seem to help. A tank attacked from the rear takes just as long to die as a tank attacked from the front. Attacking from above the tank definitely helps, though.

Maybe I've messed something up in my scenario setup. Maybe units set to "Hold Fire" are damaged differently from units set to "Aggressive". Anyway, try downloading it for yourself and let me know where I've gone wrong....

ronzilla, flanking only works when the units that you flank are fighting!
for example a line musketeers shooting at youre line muskets, now you can flank them. on the other hand units just standing cant be flanked, they can easy turn around cause theire not fighting.

Flanking causes 200% more damage as far as I know.

I plan to live forever or die trying

For flanking and rear to work, you have to be attacking from multiple sides simultaneously. When you attack from behind, and then the enemy unit turns towards you, you are no longer attacking from behind (you only got the exta bonus on the first shot).

100% extra (200% in total) damage for flanking and 50% extra for rear attack. And yes, this applies to enguaged units as free units turn.

Don't forget that some units turn alot slower than others. And some units usually don't turn at all, they just depend on other units to protect them. That is why flank and rear attacks work so well against siege units. If the siege unit tries to turn it takes forever. So they just keep firing at their original target and make no attempt to turn.To turn or try to retreat would be futile.

Flanking is important, yes, use cavalry to do it.

I hardly ever flanks well but when i manage: My mini cavalry will murder and enourmous infantry coz i tempt with horse archers... they run and i come from all side left right and front!! When this works their health bar just shoots down and u mow em down. In Mediveal TW this works better coz u can hide in the trees...
