At first all I could do was to restart the PC, now (after a reinstall) I can at least Alt+Tab back to WinXP and quit the game with the task manager. But if I do that, after about five minutes I get a BSOD - it reads something like "hardware lockup" (should write down the memory address next time). On top of that I played a game just fine today and after the BSOD and a reboot I couldn't join the game hosted by my friend anymore. I rebooted and rebooted and after five tries, I had to reinstall the game yet again - and then it worked.
This happened with both my Radeon 9700 (which I RMA'd for another reason) as well as my old Geforce1.
Rest of my specs: Athlon XP 1800+ on an MSI K7N2 (nforce2) mainboard, 2x256 MB Ram and a Soundblaster Live Value! I read the latter might cause problems, the game actually told me a couple of times it detected an Audigy card?! I'm running WinXP as I said.
Any suggestions? I haven't had any problems in single player modes whatsoever, all other games run fine and it's the only BSOD my WinXP has ever shown me so it must be related to RoN, I can reproduce the BSOD every time. Graphics card and cpu run at stock speed and I cannot imagine anything's overheating (mentioned in another thread as a possible cause for crashes). A game like Unreal 2 must be at least as demanding on my system and that didn't cause any problems...
