What do you think?
Starting age is gunpowder and ending age is enlightenment. Supremecy is fought starting at the discovery era. In the gunpowder age, nations start to colonize the new world, and tensions can rise. When the enlightenment age comes, wars can become larger and epic (with the help of a mod). Territories will also cover sea routes and total sea battles will be fought (can also be done in gunpowder age). The navies will have their own army icon and can be placed on oceon and shore territories.
Ultimately, the winner will be decided by becoming the most powerful, or conquaring the most nations (but invading capitals is not a priority).

Will there also be players that will be the "natives" such as the Aztecs.

Also, I think we should have the Russians in the CTW NetCampaign. I am pretty sure that I saw a version of the CTW campaign that included the Russians.

I have a Mac, so I may not be able to necessarily be able to play, unless Windows players can play Mac players through hamachi.

If anyone is interested in this event, please leave a reply.

This sounds extremely interesting, so yeah I'll give it a go so long as my connection troubles don't get in the way!

Well, I was just asking what you think it would be like. I'm no where near starting it right now. Once I finish my first mod (realism, very simple) I'll consider working on unit graphics and moddeling (if we ever get the software).
I was thinking that army icon navies would be needed to keep trade routes open, block others sea routes, and have full armada battles.
Whith the contries to play deal, I was thinking about the European, north African, and East Asian countries that actually sailed across the oceans to get to the new world. Natives would be left at a disadvantage and attention to history would not be all followed; such as the spanish armada ACTUALLY defeating the British, or France establishing american colonies (that would be weird though, no offence).

Sargon,

I have not tested this yet, and I don't know what kind of Mac you have. But Sun Virtual Box now has some 3D hardware support. This means it might be possible for you to run a Windows virtual machine inside your Mac OS, and successfully play RON via this manner.

I could also just get Parallels, Boot Camp, or Crossover. Considering how much a windows operating system would come in handy, I think that I might just look into this idea.

This is just a followup to running RON in a VM.

I fired up Ubuntu 8.10, running on an Nvidia chipset. It was something weenie. I think it had an 8400 in it. Nothing fancy. But I've tested RON on this chip native. I would usually get a consistent 48-60FPS.
Anyway, I installed VirtualBox 3.0.8, added H/W supported Direct 3D support. Then installed RON and T&P. I got a paltry 4FPS when running in an XP Pro SP2 installed as a VM on Ubuntu as the host OS.

Then I took my laptop, I grabbed a spare HDD and installed 10.5.6 to it. It has an Nvidia Quadro 110, 64MB/256MB turbocache. Native I get a consistent 30-35FPS in RON. Anyway, I tried the same test. I put VirtualBox on my Leopard install, activated Direct 3D support. I was able to get a consistent 15FPS running in an XP Pro SP2 VM, running on Leopard as the host OS.

That's oh so close to good enough. But IMO I don't think it is worth trying to run RON except on a native OS install. I intend to test RON on Windows 7. There is a chance it may work in the 32-bit version.

It appears we will continue to have a chasm between the Mac and PC users...

I just got Virtual Box working on my mac, and I'm installing a few programs. Whoever setup the windows OS for the one that I installed on Virtual Box did a fantastic job, making a script that automatically installed extra software, virus protection, and updates to Windows XP on Virtual Box. My hope is that my windows games will work now
