After the recent ratings change, I decided to give rated games another chance (I didn't care for the system before, half of it was because I was terrible) I ended up with a "1400" rated guy. He turned out to be a 1800. The map was African watering hole and we were both Greeks (I'd picked random. At first, we had each a few ships in the water, but soon there was fighting and he suddenly went medieval (He'd gone classical a minute before), after, gunpowder. Then, with his upgraded ships, he whomped my navy, destroyed my dock and everything. While he'd been working on his navy, I'd built an army. He went enlightenment, where I finally caught up to him, and he attacked. I sent my army into the corner, upgrading as I went. He marched right through two of my cities. I went all around the map to his capitol, and hit it. He rushed his army to there, instead of going for my cap (He probably would have if he'd done that, cuz he had way more territory then I did, and my cap's timer would have been a lot shorter) just before I attacked, he went Industrial, but didn't have enough time to upgrade.
My army was in good order when he got there, and his cavalry hit first. I shot them down on while they were yet moving, and charged my stratotai past his, and nailed his Infantry while they were still moving. He said GG and resigned.
I got really lucky on that one. Shows how a sneaky approach around the back can do a lot. I've beaten a 1930 that way.
I plan to live forever or die trying
