The German Empire had spread during the preceding eras into a magnificent central power that spread out across the numerous and varied islands (East Indies map), the other nations occupying only the edges. Amongst the greatest of these 'edge nations' Thomas Jefferson's America was the strongest, occupying two islands in the east. Faced with the prospect of the Germans growing in strength, they pre-emptively declared war, along with their Dutch allies in the south.
Immediately, the fourth bomber division and the first naval division, the pride of the Central Empire, were sent to obliterate the American forces, with the squadron of bombers arriving and wrecking infrastructure on the island. The navy arrived slightly later, but was damaged badly when the Turks, the great empire of the North and East, declared war. Early in the war, Thomas Jefferson was nearly defeated and the Turks turned their attention back towards America, conquering one of their islands. Peace was declared again ...
But there was still the problem of the imperialist Dutch Empire in the south, even weaker in the beginning than the Americans and quickly reduced by a coordinated nuclear strike to a pile of devastated cities. The sixth fighter division and the classic fourth bomber division made their wreckage, but by this time every other nation, except for Thomas Jefferson, had declared war.
Peace was signed with the Indians after a devastating nuclear strike, and the first thermonuclear ICBM was launched against Madrid - the effects were devastating. No one dared defy the Central Empire, and two cities were captured with the third and seventh armies. Peace ranged again ... but for how long?
