I think the FAQ says it best.

Why isn't civilization X in the game?
X = the name of the civilization that you think should have been included

Whether it's an American or Persian civilization that you think should be included in the game, chances are that we considered including them long and hard: "One of the significant decisions we had to make in forming our list was to group nations into "regional groups" because given the size & quantity (and quality!) of the buildings and structures in our game, and given that any architectural style would need art that "changed through the ages", there was a limit to the number of architectural styles we could represent. Another reason we have 18 nations (as opposed to, say, 20, or 63--although 18 actually represents a stretch of two from the 16 we were supposed to have) is that each of our nations also has several special unique units (complete with full art and animation), along with in many cases "unique art" even for units that aren't unique. For example the units of African nations have dark skin--their Citizens, Musketeers, etc, have special art for this. Likewise, many Far East units have eastern style uniforms instead of European style." - Brian Reynolds

Does anyone know the UU's and other Unique powers of Great Britan? I haven't seen anything on them.

Gamespy is pretty much the only source for this information but I do remember some promotional blurb that mentions SAS for brits and the UU for the Bantu.

Germany and Japan both build aircrafts faster?
or is it that Japan build planes faster wheras Germany build all air units faster?
still that's not a very unique Unique Power

and i guess the Eagle Slinger is Incan then..

it appears to be that the german bonus encompass all air units while japan's is only airplanes.

as far as the eagle slinger. i think thats the Mayan unit. since the last upgrade for them is the Eagle Balamob. Which is a slinger line. Plus I believe Incan symbolism doesnt use the Eagle as much as the central americans if i am not mistaken. although since babamoob means jaguar spirit. it does seem a little bit of an oxymoron to have an eagle balamob. But guess it still works in light of air units named like "Flyer Tigers" in history.

Information on the British is still a bit vague…

BHG RoN FAQ: "Each nation will be able to build at least four special units. Some unit examples are: the Japanese have Samurai, Bantu have Umpakati, the British have Gurkas."

John Dongelmans of BHG in an interview with UK Gamer, 30 Sep 02: "Each nation will be able to build at least two special units. Some unit examples: the Japanese have Samurai, Bantu have Umpakati, the British have Flamethrowers." Emphasis mine; all information subject to change, of course…

A number of fans have suggested at least one of the British unique units be a warship.

So will the British also get their famous "longbow" archer?
By the way, will the Roman civilization also resemble the Byzantines in the later ages?

*makes thread a sticky*

Looks like this will be something people will want to use as a quick reference guide for the Nations. Best to keep it up at the top here for all to see.

I'm not so sure that the Eagle Slinger is Incan though. The article mentions the Eagle Balamob as a type of slinger. So it is entirely possible that I have the unit labeled incorrectly. I haven't seen the eagle slinger pictured or discussed in any articles. I got it directly from the Fan Site Kit. Perhaps it was mislabeled...

Also if u look at the screenshots accompanying the gamespy article on Maya and Germans. They have some of those eagle slingers in the screen. So I think we can be reasonable sure that the Eagle Slingers are the Eagle Balamob that the Maya has.

Yes, the Maya get several unique slinger units...starting with the Eagle Slinger I believe, which upgrades to other unique light infantry units which you've listed. A great thread guys!

Regarding Ghurkas and Flamethrowers for the Brits...they don't get Ghurkas at the moment. Flamethrowers aren't actually a unique unit, and certainly not unique to the Brits.

The flamethrowers in EE sucked. Where in history were massed flamethrowers only used for destroying buildings? It should have been more like in the original C&C.

I have no idea why that would be a BRITISH unit only.

That's ZBrisk, baby!

Flamethrowers should be effective aginst buildings and troops. Why ? There is really no armor that is practical to use, that troops can wear to protect against fire and much of building material is flamable making fire a deadly weapon agianst both.

Flamethrowers can also destroy tanks under certain (though not much, unless your counting range) circumstances.

From the Gaming Nexus wbesite http://www.gamingnexus.com/Screenshot.asp?ID=372

The screenshot indicates some new info about the Japan civ.
The civ powers shown on the screen shot indicates that they get
1) metal gathering 10% faster
2) double plunder for destroying buildings
3) enemies do not get plunder for destroying your buildings
4) Ships get +1 range and LOS

ah, so that airplane thing was fixed..

what's plunder?
is it like stealing from enemy buildings?
that's an interesting power.. and fits japan..

i don't get why so many games make the japanese navy strong.. really, fishing bonus (aok) is not only justified, but one of the most sensical bonuses in the game, but japanese navy weren't that strong.. unless you count pirates.. if you count pirates i guess LOS (aok, ron) and range (ron) makes sense.. HP (aoe) still doesn't!

It's quite hard to display a strong Japanese naval trait in other ways than such attributes, I am more interested on the topic of Mongol foot units...

Well Japan in WW2 had a pretty strong navy, and the Yamato was in fact the largest and most powerful battleship in WW2. Its really just bad luck and lack of resources on the part of Japan that neutralized navy.

Also their navy defeated the Russians in their little war before WW1.

If however they use the Yamato as a model they should also give extra hitpoints and attack to their ships.

Of course prior to the industrial age, Japan didnt really have much of a navy to speak of.

Actually I am not sorry to see the airplane bonus go, since I never really understood why they got one anyways.

One_Dead_Angel, that's what i meant..

AoK and AoE was way before industrialization yet they made the japanese navy strong.
and for RoN they should have made it "battleships more HP" or something not "all ships more range and LOS"

i'm glad the airplane bonus is gone too.. hence the

btw, can you only get knowledge with plunder? according to screenshots..

o and, do you have a special order in which you do nations of the week?
