-The difference between a noob and an intermediate player lies in strategy.
If 2 players of the same skill level go 1v1 and 1 player has a plan, that player will win.
Come up with a strategy, read about one on a site, or steal one from a better player. Practice this strat until it becomes fluid, until you can do it everytime, regardless of in-game circumstances, and you will soon be an intermediate player.
-The difference between an intermediate player and a good player lies in economics and memorization.
1. economics- you must know how many citizens you need for each resource to reach your next commerce cap. This includes any rare resources you have and any economic upgrades you have or are planning to take.
when you avoid over harvesting resources for each cap. lvl you will achieve your strategy faster and smoother.
2. memorization- knowing your hotkeys and using your control groups will take you very far in RON. after each game check your mouseclick and hotkey usage. Improve this with each game.
When you have memorized hotkeys and game functions, and have a good grasp on economics, you will soon become a good RON player.
-The difference between a good player and an expert lies in tactical supremacy.
1.Exploiting geographic advantages- an expert forces his opponent to fight in spots where the map can be used to his advantage. This includes exploiting rivers to get the extra damage bonus, using ships to augment ground troop attacks, and using high ground and obstacles to gain a tactical advantage.
2.Towers/Forts/Cities- The tactical value of offensive buildings is measured by the amount of time they buy you to get your act together and defend with troops. They are there to stall enemies progress, not kill troops.
take a look at possible routes your enemies can take to reach your economic targets and use towers/forts accordingly. They are useless when not used tactically.
3. Fighting on multiple fronts- Any expert can maintain attacks in 3 or more strategic areas on the map. Adding the right type of units where they are needed most. Taking more important targets while giving up lesser ones. Using the time value of offensive buildings to gain advantage b4 letting units duke it out.
Master these tactics and you will become an expert.
Neglect them and stay weak forever.
