Rise of Nations: The Second World War *Readme*

This is the readme file for my (Wadis10's) RoN WWII mod. This mod is still in beta and not all nations are finished or can be played. Below is a list of playable nations at this stage.

Australia (Iroquois)
Britain (British)
Dutch East Indies (Aztecs)
Finland (Maya)
Nazi Germany (Germans)
Italy (Romans)
Imperial Japan (Japanese)
Sweden (Lakota)
USA (Americans)
Soviet Union (Russians)

A unique feature to this WWII mod is that age advance is retained, albeit modified. An official WWII game goes for Ancient to Modern Ages, however in Info age (1946+) new experimental units become available (such as many jet fighters). Units become available in their respective ages and age advancement takes a very long time, usually the game in finished before 1945. Nuclear Missiles are very expensive however the USA receives a 50% discount with the 'statue of liberty' wonder. Only Soviet Union, Germany, Japan, USA and Britain can research Nuclear Weapons, however if another nation captures a missile silo off one of these nations they can research nukes. Only Britain, Japan and America can get aircraft carriers.

Wonders are only available to the nations that built them in real life. A lot of the 'new' wonders look very cheesy at this stage and I hope to touch them up later (they're a screenshot out of google sketchup)

There are too many people to credit for this mod, if I left someone major out please tell me and I'll add them in. This mod was based off PanzerX's WWII mod for original RoN.

ODA and Unit35
Panzer X
Coldwar Warrior
pvt jenkins117
Kamikaze Seagull
nice dictator
Matthew Cook
Sam and Elijah Weightman
etc, etc

To install, follow these instructions:

1.After downloading ALL the parts of the mod unzip each part into the same folder. Then open the hjsplit.exe file in the final part (part 5) Then press 'join' and navigate to the first part of the mod (it should end in .001) and it should find the rest of the parts and join them together. If you are having trouble with this program I can upload a version that can easily be unzipped with 7zip.
2.Copy the folder 'WWII' (this will be inside the zip file) once all parts have been rejoined
3.Paste it into C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Rise of Nations\mods (if the mods folder does not exist create it)
4.If you want the new sounds, then you will have to overwrite the original RoN soundfiles.xml, don't worry though, my version is fully compatible with the original game (I think). This step is optional: in WWII\data copy the soundfiles.xml to Rise of nations\Thrones and Patriots\data
5.Go into RoN, there should be a new option in the mods dropdown menu called 'RoN WWII TP'
6.Follow my instructions and report any bugs.
7.Enjoy the mod!

This game is not balanced, but tries to be balanced realistically, so USA, Britain, Russian and Germany are the best nations in the game. Germany gets quality and Russia gets quantity, etc.
Remember this mod IS NOT COMPLETE, although I may use up all of unitrules.xml before I finish. And yes I know Sweden wasn't in WWII, I just made it because of Axle's Skins.

There are many new buildings in the game, such as houses, offices and barbed wire. There are also several new barracks and auto plants for the Germans and British where more units can be made.

If you find any bugs please report them on the forum so they can get fixed.

EDIT: Last updated Wednesday 1st October 2008, please re-download.

Coldwar Warrior looks really good. I suggest on jungle maps as the British or Australians there should be no red dot or kangaroo on the RAF/RAAF symbol. Also, British and the Japanese airfields didn't really have runways, they were more like paved dirt than anything.

Yeah there's a lot of bad skins that I really need to fix up.
pinkspider3 Sounds interesting, been waiting for something big to come out :)

About sweden, they were actually very interesting during ww2. They were neutral, but then not really.

Because Sweden was a neutral during WWII, other than during the short experience of the Winter War in 1939, it did not openly allow for recruitment into foreign armies. When Germany invaded the Soviet Union in 1941 its sentiments changed very little, although the Finns were allowed to garner volunteers once again. Approximately 1,500 Swedes volunteers for service with Finland between 1941 and 1944. There were even some swedes in the SS.

The swedish government was anti german, but the king was very much in favor of of the germans and was fearful of bolshevism. He later called it a plague. He sent a letter to hitler, explainging the king was going to try to convince the government to help the war effort.

The swedish let germany travel their railways and allowed german troops to travel in their country.

They also helped the allies too. They allowed jews to take refuge in their country, and they also trained and armed Norweigan troops. Then even allowed U.S military transports marked in civilian colors to transport the Norweigans out.

wwII_nut It crashes whenever i try to advance in age.
FantasyFan I will rate right after I have tried it.

Is there Vietnam ? (Just kidding)
Coldwar Warrior When I was at 1942 the game crashed, I also noticed a lot of problems with your mod, like the skins. Why did you replace the Allied Staghound with the German armored car and left the axis with the WW1 armored car?
File Author
As for the crashes, I think the file might have not compressed properly or there may have been a zip error and some data files may be missing. What were the game settings when the crashes happened. What nation, map, etc.

As for the skins and the allied armoured car, I based this mod completely off PanzerX's (it's available on this site). The armoured car setup was therefore copied straight over but I think I fixed the italian armoured car and made the allied car the staghound.

Many of the skins are just low grade fillers until I make better ones, the priority was making more nations quickly. Although this also has to do with my poor art skills more than anything else. As for the German Freies Legion units i'm yet to find the correct unit that edilberto based it off (I have a feeling it's a partisan). It would help me a lot if someone found it.
EDIT: I found the model for the freies legion skins, it was the partisan.

It would also help if more skilled skinners could fix up some of the bad skins.

I'll hopefully have a version with less bugs up in a few days.

coola567 This may sound stupid, but where is the "mods" submenu located ingame? I simply can´t find it.
Coldwar Warrior I was playing on quick play with a random map from the Ancient to Info age. When the first crash happened I was playing with the Dutch, British, Germans, Japanese, Americans, Italians, and the Soviets. The second time I played with all the same but with Swedes and Australians instead of the dutch. Btw, I think you should include the Indians, Dutch, and French in your mod. I was at 1942 when they crashed. Why did you put USAAC markings on the b-29? It should have USAAF markings instead. Also, you should give the lightning and B-25 to the americans too, like have a B-25C or D in 1940, and one of the later versions at around 1943 or somthing. It will make the mod a little more historically accurate.

The mustard gas gun is screwed up too.

wwII_nut I was playing Germans versus Russians on an old world map, and started out in 1941.
Anyways, i had all the techs researched and tried to advance in age, but as soon as it was about to change, it crashed.
