The Siege of Port Arthur, 1 August 1904 - 2 January 1905, the deep-water port and Russian naval base at the tip of the Liaotung Peninsula in Manchuria, was the longest and most vicious land battle of the Russo-Japanese War.
Port Arthur was widely regarded as one of the strongest fortified positions in the world. However, during the First Sino-Japanese War, General Nogi Maresuke had taken the city from the forces of Qing China in only a few days. The ease of his victory during that previous conflict, and overconfidence by the General Staff in Japan's ability to overcome subsequent improvements made by the Russians during their occupation of the area, led to a much longer campaign with much heavier casualties during the Russo-Japanese War.
The Siege of Port Arthur saw the introduction of much of the technology used in subsequent wars during the 20th century, including massive 11-inch (280 mm) mortars capable of hurling 500 kilogram shells over 8 kilometers, as well as rapid-firing light howitzers, Maxim machine guns, bolt-action magazine rifles, barbed wire entanglements, electric fences, arc lamp searchlights, tactical radio signaling (and, in response, the first military use of radio jamming), hand grenades, trench warfare, and the use of modified naval mines as land weapons.
have fun!

If I'm not wrong, this scenario is one of my hardest but also one of the most scripted and finest scenarios, including masses of numbers, hard attacks to repel and a lot of artillery usage, together with a lot of unique units...
Please rate it or post comments, I need your criticism and reviews, because it may help me in the future for creating better scenarios. |

Playability: 4
There was some lag, but for the most part, it was fine.
Balance: 4
The Chinese were definitely too strong in my view.
Creativity: 5
This is one of the more original ideas of 2009.
Map Design: 4
The map was OK, but I thought that you could have put a bit more into the city instead of just putting a bunch of random houses.
Story/Instructions: 3
I didn't really understand what I was supposed to do to win. I think that you should have made the objective a bit more clear.
Additional Comments: 4
This is another solid scenario by Tomba. Its pretty decent, but I do think that it could have been better. Make the objective a bit more clear, and that would have helped a considerable amount. |
