Run RoN in a window!

Author File Description
File Details
Needs T&P?: Yes
With the help of a few RoNH forum members, I recently discovered how to run Rise of Nations in a window rather than full screen. This mod will change your game information to do so.

Windows Installation
1. Locate C:\Documents and Settings\(YourName)\Application Data\Microsoft Games\Rise of Nations
2. Backup rise2.ini from your folder.
3. Drag the file rise2.ini from the download into C:\Documents and Settings\(YourName)\Application Data\Microsoft Games\Rise of Nations.

Macintosh Installation
1. Locate C:\(YourName)\Documents\Rise of Nations
2. Backup rise2.ini from your folder.
3. Drag the file rise2.ini from the download into C:\(YourName)\Documents\Rise of Nations.

Pineapple_Man Great little file, way more useful to be playing in a window rather than fullscreen'd!

Danke! :D

Could you post a Review and give me a four or five? :D
RTSDude999 Quick question: Will it interfere w/ multiplayer?

For LAN, it should do nothing, but for GameRanger Internet Play, I am actually not sure. I'll get back to you on that. My guess is that it will not screw up the game play, however, it might be full screen for internet play.
twentypastthree I followed the directions but it didn't go to windowed mode. Is there an option I have to select somewhere? And what exactly do you mean by backing up the file in step 2 for windows?

Thanks and please respond.

1. It should work if you do what the directions entail.

2. By backing up the files, I mean backup the files that are already in the folder prior to you download just in case you want to run full screen again.

3. There shouldn't be an option because it should just run in a window. What operating system are you using?
twentypastthree Windows Vista.
Edit: I just reinstalled the game because I wasn't sure if I accidentally messed up a file or something. I think my problem is that I can't find Rise2.ini in the Rise of Nations folder, so your rise2.ini file doesn't actually replace another file. It just copies over and does nothing.

The problem is that I don't have vista. If I were you, I would look through the files in that Rise of Nations folder and see if any of them is remotely similar in content.
twentypastthree Lucky you. Not having Vista, that is. Anyway, I couldn't find anything like it. I really just wish I could go back to XP sometimes.
lordliam I can't find the right file either. D:
