Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn Yūsuf ibn Ayyūb (c. 1138 – March 4, 1193), better known in the Western world as Saladin, was a Kurdish Muslim who became the first Ayyubid Sultan of Egypt and Syria. He led Islamic opposition to the Franks and other European Crusaders in the Levant. At the height of his power, he ruled over Egypt, Syria, Mesopotamia, Hejaz, and Yemen. He led the Muslims against the Crusaders and eventually recaptured Palestine from the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem after his victory in the Battle of Hattin. As such, he is a notable figure in Kurdish, Arab, and Muslim culture. Saladin was a strict adherent of Sunni Islam and a disciple of the Qadiri Sufi order. His chivalrous behavior was noted by Christian chroniclers, especially in the accounts of the siege of Kerak in Moab, and despite being the nemesis of the Crusaders he won the respect of many of them, including Richard the Lionheart; rather than becoming a hated figure in Europe, he became a celebrated example of the principles of chivalry.

In this scenario you lead the Saracen Army to march on Egypt in the name of his master Nur ad-Din. You will have to complete the three tasks in order to claim yourself as Sultan.

This Scenario is Part 1 in a 6 part series I'm doing on this topic. A review will be most welcome. So, I can improve on the others.

Playability: 3
It is perfectly playable, but I hadn't lots of fun playing it. The goals are rather simple and common and the script doesn't add any new interesting things.

Balance: 2
Well, I honestly think it was way too easy. You had just to avoid fighting against the East Frank Knights until you razed the Senate. And that was the single "challenge", if I may call it so. No time limit - another problem IMO. Since you've disabled the citizen and most of the military units, I think I could take a sleep of an hour, letting the game run attended, and still win.

Creativity: 3
I haven't played so far any other scenario concerning these historical facts, but, other than that, I wouldn't say this scenario is creative. Generally the "kill everything" goals (your first goal was to crush all the West Franks) cannot be considered creative.

Map Design: 3
The ocean, forests and mountains were really well designed, but there's a big problem. When I sent my army to attack Cairo, the single life form that I encountered was the Egyptian monarch. Other than that, there were no citizens, no military units, no scholars, no caravans in that huge city. I don't know exactly what was the aspect of Cairo in the XII century, but I'd bet it wasn't that lifeless. Also, you've placed some groups of buildings that don't look good IMO(for example, several houses or universities placed too close to another house/university).

Story/Instructions: 4
The instructions were nice, other than some misspellings. But, as I'm not a native English speaker, I don't expect perfect English from others. About the story - just mentioning the year and a very few details about the historical background can't be called a story. But I give you a 4 because I really liked the audio instructions, and I don't want to give you an overall rating of 2.8, considering this is only your your third scenario and you are still improving your skills.

LordBJ Played, and reviewed it. It's not better than your first scenario, but it's cleary better than Behind Enemy Lines.

Thank you for reviewing my scenario again promptly Lord BJ. I must say we are becoming good critics of one another.

Now for your review. The Map was designed keeping in mind the size of buildings in those times. ANd the other thing about Cairo. Egyptians had an army but were very cowardly people. And historically Saladdin entered Cairo without any resistance from Egyptians. But he did have to fight franks before entering it because the ruler or Egypt had conspired with the franks to keep saladdin out of cairo. Now, i tried to do justice to the scenario historically. So, the goals I set were realistic. As far as creativity is concerned i think you and i have a difference of opinion on this. I know what the guidelines say but being creative in my book means that creating something that has not been done before. So, I think on this website no one has made any scenario on Saladdin. Plus, the Map design too i think deserved better points. But ok, that's just one opinion.

I think you started out with a big army. But you balanced it well by giving enough troops to the enemy side.

This is a new concept. And very well done in terms of creating the scenario and also executing it the way you did. I really liked the part where the ruler of egypt surrenders his army...lolz

I think here is the only place i can agree with Lord BJ there wasn't enough story. Try to include more lines.

All in all a good scenario i played the other one and it was awful so didnt feel like reviewing it. But this one was a rebirth. Im looking forward to the rest of the series.
LordBJ I see what's your point of view but I still wouldn't say that creativity is the best part of this scenario. It's true that no one has done before a scenario with Saladin as the main character, but I guess that there are many people who have set goals similar to yours in their scenarios. So you can't be right when you're saying that you've done something never done before. Only the topic is unique, but the goals aren't. I understand you've tried to make a historically accurate scenario, but I think you could improve the goals, or at least make them harder to accomplish. You could also add some events, some choices, and so on...

I also understand that the Egyptians were coward, but their cowardness could be expressed in a better way, IMO. Just a suggestion: wouldn't it be better to create a few Egyptian troops, set their stance to "Hold Fire" and then make them flee in panic(by using a group_move_order)?

About the map - probably you need to mod the game if you want to give Cairo a very realistic look. In my opinion, a group of houses placed that close to each another doesn't look like a bigger house.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to your next scenario concerning Saladin. But I'd like to see more creativity, and more interesting goals and events.
