My first post here, so I wanted an eye candy and did some changes in unit_graphics.xml and unitrules.xml thanks to One Dead Angel's Ron Mod Utility, it took me long time editing every single unit rules in note pad and in mod util, so I wanted to share it.
All units have been scaled down to 0.7 and all Cavalry and Tank uber_size up to 3 and 6 man squad is built out of 3 soldiers and 1 crew per soldier so crew dies when soldier dies too, and they follow each other very closely and act if they attack. So you can have a massive armies fighting in 200 pop limit, (I did this because game becomes unmanageable and unbalanced beyond 300 pop (well unless you edit entire game stats).
I havent thoroughly tested.
Installation; Simple way...
find your way to Program Files/Microsoft Games/Rise Of Nations/
if your dont have mods folder just right click and make a new folder and place the Massive Armies Mod folder in it and enjoy from mod drop down list in Quick games.
The mod didn't work at first because the game "couldn't read the XML file". I opened the XML file and found that the tag was not closed. You'll need to add to the end of the file for the game to recognize the mod.
With that out of the way, the 6-man squad sounds cool, but it's like have 3 pairs of clones in each squad. Each time someone from the squad dies, 2 people die instead of one, and they'd have the same death animation. If you completely zoom out, it won't matter very much. But I like to get up close and personal. Additionally, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th person in the squad don't have a selection circle under them. As the author said, they're more like "crew members" than extra men in a squad.
Having 3 cavalry soldiers in a squad is great! It effectively triples cavalry sizes, and each soldier behaves individually. I think the 0.7 scale is a good touch too.
I'd use this mod but without the 6-men squads.
