On August 4th, 1914, six brigages detached from the Second German Army - The Army of the Meuse - began the first move in the execution of the Schlieffen/Moltke Plan - to smash quickly through the defenses of Liège, Belgium. Neither Schlieffen nor Moltke counted on a spirited defense at Liège by a small but proud Belgian division, led by General Leman, who had been ordered by his King to hold out to the bitter end. Hold out he did, for 12 more days, the modern forts of the city preventing von Kluck's First Army from crossing the Meuse in strength. In order to get through the gap, the forts needed to be destroyed, one by one, piece by piece, before the Germans could continue.
Version notes : Because of script problems, Mortars appear in the first Wave, not the last.

Playability: 3
(Its pretty Playable)
Balance: 3
(Its good balanced)
Creativity: 5
(Very creative!)
Map Design: 3
(What does the city of Schagen there on the map, but for the rest its good)
Story/Instructions: 4
(The story gives you an authentic feeling and the instructions are perfect)
Additional Comments: The City of Liege must be in hands the of an be in the hands of another Belgian group instead of the Belgian army (So Schagen will be not needed).
Anyway, may I use this scenario for my WWI CTW?

The city of Schaegen is basically to make the scenario work. If it wasn't there, You would win as soon as you captured Liege, even though the forts are all standing. |

No, you don't need the city of Schaegen. It's a waste.
Just use the code - disable_city_defeat(1);
under the run once section in your script.
And it cant be won, when all 12 forts are gone, it just keeps going...

Playability: 2
Capturing the city was a great fun, but taking the forts one by one 12 times was boring! Also, The game couldnt be won.
Balance: 4
The reinforcments were enough to take the city and some forts, and you could also build units after capturing the city.
Creativity: 3
The game wasnt the most creative, as map was lame script was barely and gameplay was a bit boring after sometime, but it had potential.
Map Design: 2
All can see you didint invest your time in the map. Even the farms were destroyed before i could see them.
Story/Instructions: 5
Very good hob on this part. The story was explained and objectives were placed.
Additional Comments:
The victory problems comes from the fact that you didint make the victory conditions to kill all units and buildings of the enemy. And about the farms, try to ally the farmers with the belgiums so attrition wont be taken, and set them on war with germany. |
