Toulouse
10 April 1814
The last major battle of the Peninsular War was fought over the important southern French city of Toulouse and - like many of the Duke of Wellington's attacks on fortified strongholds - proved a bloody affair.
It was also an unnecessary battle as Napoleon Bonaparte had abdicated four days earlier.
However, the protagonists Wellington and Marshal Soult were not to know of the end of the war and so went about their duties. The former to push further into France, and the latter to hold the British at bay.
Soult had some 42,000 men to defend Toulouse and he had organised them well in tough-to-crack positions. Wellington led just under 50,000 soldiers, a fifth of them Spanish.
The main British battle plan was to take the heights overlooking the city from the east and make the defenders' position untenable.
To do this Marshal William Beresford was given the unenviable task of moving against the heights under heavy enemy fire for two miles (3 km).
Simultaneously, General Rowland Hill would attack the western suburbs in a diversionary assault.
Beresford's attack did not run smoothly as mud initially delayed his force and then severely hampered his troops' ability to progress up the steep slope of the eastern ridge.
They were repelled by the defenders, but a second attack - followed by desperate fighting - managed to force the French from their positions.
Wellington then ordered guns dragged to the heights, an operation that was difficult in the extreme.

Playability: 5
Very smooth and swift
Balance: 5
Exactly the correct balance. If you attack without the artillery support you will eventually loose. You have to wait for the coorect time
Creativity: 5
Amazing. I love the ingame dialogue. and also the scottish highlander music and units
Map Design: 5
Great map. Very historical. I actually checked it out
Story/Instructions: 5
Very nice. I loved the dialogue, as i said before.and also the special work you put on the Highlanders units. Unlike the Austerlitz and Waterloo scenarios King walker and MP put out, you finally get to be the attacker and not the defender. Which is historically true
Additional Comments:
Overall, one of the best scenario ive ever played |

Great scenario
Balance: 5
Perfect if i attack befor i get the cannon to the mountain i lost. You have to wait for the perfect time
Creativity: 5
Loved the in game dialogues. Also how you portraied the British Regulars and cannon climbing the mountian slowly because of the mud
Map Design: 5
Great map.
Story/Instructions: 5
As i said above. Even though i had superior forces, any hothead could have charged and lost. Instead you must wait for the cannon to assemble on the mountain and then when the french are being bombarded out of there positions, attack.
Additional Comments:

(You have done a very good job in this scenario, the way we easly move the entire wings is very well done, nice work. the support bar is too very important in this quind of games.)
Balance: 4
(The scenario is a bit hard, maybe you could correct this, because some times i lost the game and my army was bigger than the enemie one, you could correct the defeat line on the script.)
Creativity: 5
(This was your best scenario, the names of the units are fantastic, historical correct, very nice work!!)
Map Design: 4
(Once more, i think you could done a more good job in the map design, you should use more goddies, extras like more random trees, rocks and resourses. i know you could do a much good work, i saw it in your previous scenario.)
Story/Instructions: 5
(It has a very good script, in the retreat aspect, nice work. also the dialogs are very nice along the battle.)
Additional Comments:
This is one of your best scenarios, you have what it takes to be one of the best scenario designers on the site, keep the good work!! |

(Excellent job, fantastic enviorement and the support bar for moving the flanks helps the large army is great.)
Balance: 4
(Nice work, my only complain is that everytime i played i end the game losing when my army has more than 220 units and the enimie has less than 200, something is not right here, i shouldnt lose the battle when i have much more men than the enemie!!!)
Creativity: 5
(Excellent work, loved the units historical names and the unique sounds for with legion type, nice work!!)
Map Design: 4
(Good map design but its a litle to organized, in some aspects dosent look reality.)
Story/Instructions: 5
(Very good work, always scripted during all game, attack and retreat messages, correct dates and historical names, very well done.)
Additional Comments:
With the excepession of that unit rout, its a very nice map to play, an excellent job!!!! |
