Following the Manchurian Incident (Sept., 1931), the Japanese Kwantung army occupied Manchuria and established the puppet state of Manchukuo (Feb., 1932). Japan pressed China to recognize the independence of Manchukuo, The Japanese were successful in 1933 and 1935 when they forced China to form two demilitarized autonomous zones bordering Manchuria.
The situation was tense, and in 1937 full war commenced. A clash (July, 1937) between soldiers of the Japanese garrison at Beijing and Chinese forces at the Marco Polo Bridge was the pretext for Japanese occupation at Beijing and Tianjin. Chiang Kai-shek refused to negotiate an end to hostilities on the Japanese terms and placed troops outside the Japanese settlement at Shanghai. After a protracted struggle Shanghai and the national capital, Nanjing, fell to the Japanese. More then 300,000 were left dead.
This scenario is about the Japanese invasion of Shanghai on August, 1937. I thought of making this scenario when i saw a documentary of this on TV. Plus Hearts of Iron 2 the game also game me more ideas. To win this scenario u have to capture all the cities on the map. You play as the Japanese. Right now im planing on making a Chinese version of this scenario where u play as Nationalist China and defend Shanghai. So enjoy. :)
I would like to thank www.Answers.com for the information and for more information on the Second Sino-Japanese War go to this link.
Has anyone beat this scenario? I don't know if it's just me, but I can't even secure one city with the number of troops. I've tried it 6 times without success. Any suggestions would be welcome...

I tried this scenario multiple times and always ran out of soldiers to hold onto even one city.
I think the small army provided is insufficient.

The city layouts were very nice, though I would have liked to see some metal and oil resources available.
Nice historical background.
I ultimately had to cheat and give myself and few extra soldiers - to gain a foothold in one city. Also, it would have been more exciting if each city generated soldiers to fight back.
