The Battle for the Sea

The scenario was created in RON T&P Gold Edition

Overview: My first attempt at re-creating a Historical Battle, was a chore to follow the actual battle and to make the scenario as close to the actual event.

Summary Text from research materials for this Scenario.

World War I, The Western Front, The Battle(s) of Ypres (3)

The City of Ypres, strategically located along the roads leading to the Channel ports in Belgian Flanders.

By October 1914, the Allies had reached Nieuport on the North Sea coast.
The Germans, as a prelude to General Erich von Falkenhayn's Flanders Offensive (Ypres), captured Antwerp and forced its Belgian defenders back to Nieuport, near the City of Ypres.

The Allied position around Ypres took the shape of a small salient in the trench lines because it could best be defended from the low ridge of higher ground to the east, but it was vulnerable to superior German artillery.

The British Expeditionary Force held a thirty-five mile long line in the centre of the bulge while the French Army in the area, commanded by General Ferdinand Foch, manned the flanks to the south of the city.

Second Battle of Ypres is generally remembered today as marking the first use of gas on the Western Front. A total of 5,700 canisters containing 168 tons of chlorine gas were released at sunrise on 22 April against French
following a brief preliminary bombardment by 17-inch howitzers. A veil of greenish-yellow mist could be clearly seen rolling across from the German front lines to the French positions.

Begun in April and used primarily as a means of diverting Allied attention from the Eastern Front, and as a means of testing the use of chlorine gas, it eventually concluded in failure in May.

As a consequence of the failure of this attack the German army gave up its attempts to take the town, choosing instead to demolish it through constant bombardment. By the end of the war Ypres had been largely reduced to piles of rubble.

Mission Objectives/HINTS:

German offensive against French, British and Canadian Forces.

Ignore Nation (6), they are a map prop only.

Watch for weakness in the Line
You have DIRECT control of the Indians (Algerian French Forces)
You have little of any research to do, but you must go to the Senate to Produce Your Spawn Hero
Do not let any of your cities get captured !!!

Mod(s): Green Smoke for Mustard Gas graciously provided by probed69, see file Green Smoke, you need to go to the Art Folder and replace the original with this one. It's very simple to do, but, DON'T FORGET

enjoy marce

SwinginBlade Dl'ing now, sounds neat. Since im canadian, i know a lil bit of this history here. When the first attack of chlorine gas was used, the french tried to run off(the cowards), but some canadian chemist or summin figured a way to be able to breathe, by pissing on a cloth n puttin it over ur mouth. If that never happened, the germans might've been succesful in the second battle...remember the 'ole elite canadian infantry, that they stood their ground while everyone else ran!

There famous stand at Passchendaele,
to be frank, I could never do them justice in a scenario, their tenacity and courage was incredible.

Yeah, the French ran like hell, they were terrified!!!!!

Oddly, enough, I thought, I would here from iamcanadian first, he really wants to plays as the Canadians. Wait a day or two and come back here, there is an update with the Canadians in mind so to speak, it just has to get cleared by the site, and you will be able to access. Maybe later tonight.

is this a group move order?

Version 2, you have total control of the canadian forces, not so fast, you will also have to do alittle more work. Thanks guys for playing, I hope you enjoy.
probed1969 Interesting about the defense against the gas. Water was in such short supply that they had to resort to urine? Since urine is sterile it's not a health issue as such, (it can be used to cleanse wounds on the battlefield), but aesthetically it wouldn't be very pleasing. Although judging by the condition of the trenches in this war things were pretty grim anyway.

Is that why Moosehead beer smells like that? LoL
