Your enemies are your equal in every way, except that they have a much better strategic position than you. You are on a tiny island that is far to small for your buildings, and must colonise te rich mainland, which is currently held by your enemies!
Not exactly equal. The oil is largely on one end of the map. If you start out in the wrong direction it makes a big difference when you get to Industrial.
Interesting set up though. Similar to a CTW scenario.

You ask how you were supposed to build a library? You are not supposed to build a library, the idea is that you have to get off the island as son as possible.

Had a lot of fun on that Island.
I made it within 5 min to set up a new city on the main land but got destroyed.
Escaped back to the Island and after a long digging to metal I managed to get a deal with a civilization (2000 metal). Only after that deal it was possible to start a new city on friendly territory.
Then, after some quick developing a long battle for revenge followed.
