Big Huge games has released a comprehensive set of documents that give detailed instructions on how to use the Scenario Editor in Rise of Nations as well as the syntax for the scripting language used in the game. You can download the complete set of Documents in Zip format here.

In the file you will find the following documents.

  • RoN Script Manual.doc
    Covers essential and advanced topics used in the Big Huge Scripting language.

  • Scenario Editor Walk.doc
    Does a complete walk through for creating your first scenario in the Rise of Nations Scenario editor.

  • Script Editor Commands.doc
    Additional information about the buttons found in the Script Editor's menus.

  • Script Functions Listing_2.doc
    Provides a complete listng of all the functions available in the scripting language including syntax and example code.

  • HelpTables.doc
    Proper names for technologies and units, as they need to be written in scripts.

  • rally.bhs
    A simple Script Example.

  • rally.sce
    A simple scenario based on the rally.bhs script.

But seriously this was some really heavy stuff. Seems like you has to learn C/Javascript for the more complicated functions =/ But what don't you do for the cause

Right, especially the 147 pages function list, eh?

The manual clarified some last bits I was still wondering over, and the function list will clearly come in handy. Don't think I'll print it out though.

This is great, there's a lot of things you can do with this script editor. Kinda down on the fact that there isn't much in the way of eye candy. Hopefully they can patch it, or put it in an expansion pack.

I'm designing in Conquerors and it's good fun. I want to purchase RON but would eventually spend more time editing than playing so........?

Is the editor good or what? Cos this forum is tiny but the game is new, and games aint cheap here...

Is there anyway to change the victory conditions? No. of wonder points or % of territory etc.

RoN Scenario Editor & Script Editor are very easy to use, self-explanatory almost, you just need a push in the right direction and the rest will be as easy as reading a book.

YOu can set game rules to Custom, which lets you choose about 10 conditition like Musical Chairs, Assassin and Barbarians at the Gates. You can also set it to Scenario, in which case you'll need to find a victroy command.

when u make a scenario how do you get the campaign units like humvees and nuclear missile submarines??

Either script them in or download one of the many mods on this site that allow you to use CTW units.

There's a really good mod out there. I use it too.

umm.... just wondering...
All the maps ive downloaded here are .scx files, but with RoN i can only open .sce files
Can anyone clarify my situation?

Do you have TaP?

AFAIK, .sce is RoN only, .scx is TaP only.

Look, I know I'm a complete idiot, but HELP!

I tried to program a scenario, but the code won't work.

That, and I don't know how to put combat units from a different Age into the map at a certain time and I'm clueless on how to put messages onscreen when you meet up with the time-displaced units.

Can you please tell me how can I create entirely new nations with totally new unique features and get them in the conquer the world map as well as in the single player list???? Many thanks in advance.

you can't create new nations, but you can find ones that you don't like and overwrite them with new stuff.

i'm not that familiar with the code, i'm just good at scripting scenarios. although i have the attention span of a wombat so i never finish that many scenarios.
