Topic Subject: Creating a new card game

By the way, I actually hate to tell you this, but I am somewhat addicted to making games - Rise of Kings is good evidence of that.

So, what do you think about the following: a business-based card game, called "One Per Cent (working title)": think of it as monopoly meets Magic The Gathering.

Each player starts off with a degree of production factors (the currency of the game) and reputation. I want to make a game that really looks like business and smells like business. So here it goes:

There are two lots of cards: the draw pile, and the events pile. Each turn, a player may gain 1 PF, draw from the draw pile, or play a card from the draw pile. The draw pile contains all sorts of cards, ranging from business projects all the way to pretty nasty characters like lawyers and criminal contacts.

Each time a player performs an action, he or she must draw a card from the events pile and place it out. The events pile contains a variety of things, ranging from things like increased consumer confidence, all the way to climate change.

I haven't figured out a way to win, yet, but I can say this: I guess it all depends on score. If you run out of Production Factors or Reputation, you are either bankrupt or jailed, and you lose the game.

So, guys, what do you think?

That sounds like an interesting idea. I have little knowledge about business but it looks cool nonetheless

This sounds pretty awesome , are you supposed to just stockpile production factors or can you use them when you're low on cards?

@Hindos: It's a bit like Minecraft, where there is no end - just make sure your Production Factors (these represent real life money) and your reputation don't go down to zero. If it does, you lose the game - you become bankrupt, or you are jailed.

The game is unique in that it has no fixed winning goals - the winning conditions have to be set at first. So, for instance, you could have a winning condition, where you must be the only one with assets left over at the end of the game, or the first person to reach a certain level of PFs wins. I am currently having dinner (modding on 3ds Max V is hard stuff!) and will probably have it done over the next few hours.

@Super7700: I had been thinking of such a project since the days I used to play MTG (now retired, the habit was too costly). I realised that there isn't really a good game out there that is far less boring than Monopoly or Game of Life, but I didn't get the inspiration for it well until now.

The game is meant to be commercialised eventually, but as you know, like my "commercialisation campaign" for Rise of the Moderns, I'm a bit stuck in the mud. Currently, I'm working out a test batch to see if it can be played as a forum game on Minecraft forums; but to be honest it's hard. Pretty, pretty hard. Much worse, however, will be to decide when it should stop being random pngs on Wikia, and maybe become a Facebook game, but I've played enough to know that it will be thoroughly difficult.

By the way, Rise of the Moderns, contrary to rumours, is not dead - it's just being uplifted. I will be producing the mod, anyhow, but if I can find a way to create an all-new game independent of RoN, I will stop the modding, and probably switch to making models with Blender instead. The new game won't appear under the old name, it will need to be rebranded thoroughly.
